Route 66 road trip layout

 Happy Monday!  It's been awhile-summer has been too busy to get much crafty time.  However, we are back to being empty nesters with the kids away at college, so I have a lot of time to catch up on my craft projects.  This Route 66 road trip layout was made with the Nifty Fifties image collection for all the cricut cuts.  Son#3 had gone on a road trip to visit college friends, so I was scrapping some of his pictures from the trip.  I love the Nifty Fifties images so much, so this was lots of fun to make.  Hope your end of summer includes some fun!

Happy Monday!  I hope you're staying warm where ever you are-this cold from the polar vortex is getting old!  I've spent a lot of time in my craft room  because it's literally too cold to do anything.  (And I have a space heater in there, lol!)  I'm enjoying the crafting time with no distractions, so I guess that's the silver lining.  

I'm hosting the BBTB2 challenge for the next two weeks and selected the challenge theme Bon Appetit!  I wanted to scrap some pictures of our Christmas cookie baking and made the layout below.  I love how it turned out!  I especially love that kitchen mixer cut from Nifty Fifties for some reason!  I hope you will "whisk" up some food themed creations and share them over at the BBTB2 blog.

Around the World-travel theme

Happy Monday!   Our BBTB2 challenge this week is Around the World, a travel theme.  Since I just got back from vacay driving to Colorado, I thought what could be more nostalgia inducing than a Route 66 road trip layout for those snapshots along the way?  I used the Nifty Fifties cartridge and some map paper from the stash to make this layout.  The stamps on the the journal box are from a CTMH stamp set called The Long Way Home.  The design team has some fabulous travel themed projects over at BBTB2 and you can link your project up using the linky at the bottom there.

Hot Eats layout (for BBTB2)

Happy Monday!  Our BBTB2 challenge this week is to use a cricut food die cut on a project.  I had some vacation pics from last summer eating buffalo and elk burgers at a diner in Estes Park, so I grabbed the Nifty Fifties cartridge to capture the diner feel on my layout.  All the cuts are from Nifty Fifties-such a fun cartridge to play with!  Hope you'll join us over at BBTB2 and go see what the rest of the designers have come up with!

Music layouts

So we have a music challenge this week at BBTB2.  Since all my kids are very musical, I make a lot of music projects.  I have several musical themed layouts I've done over the last year that I haven't shared on the blog, so this is like a whole concert of layouts, lol!  I have kids in both band and orchestra and I have to say that the Quarter Note cartridge is the one to have if you have musical kiddos!  I use it ALL the time.

Project #1

However, this layout is NOT about the kids!  As a birthday gift last year, my husband got tickets for us to see my favorite band (Maroon 5) in concert when they came to the Sprint Center in Kansas City.  It was so much fun going to see the concert and of course I took some pictures...  My guitar and font are from the CM This and That cartridge-love the funky guitar (it feels rock and roll…).  The music notes are also from the cartridge.

Project #2

As Son#2 is in the marching band, pep band, AND jazz band at his high school, I have taken a lot of band pics this year.  My son plays trombone in the band, but this design could be changed up to include any instrument.  The frames are pop dotted so I can slide a picture underneath.  The high school band and orchestra students "fondly" refer to each other as band geeks and orch dorks, hence the band geeks title.  Guess I need to make an orch dork layout too for Sons#1 and #3!

Project #3

Another music layout for band and orchestra pictures from the pops concert last year for pics of all 3 kiddos playing…I wanted bright colorful paper for this fun end of the year concert of pop music.

Project #4

Son#2 won the instrumental prize at the school talent show last year on piano (yes, he plays trombone AND piano and sings too), so I made this layout for the pics.  I had to trim some of the flourishes off the piano (from Quarter Note) to make it fit.

Project #5

This layout is for an orchestra event where Son #1 is wearing a tux, so I wanted a more formal look for the layout with black, white, and cream.  Loved the music paper and the Quarter Note cartridge!

Hard Rock Cafe layout (for BBTB2)

Happy Memorial Day!  Hope you are getting to relax!  Our BBTB2 challenge theme this week is to use a cricut car on a project.  I have a had some pictures waiting for a car layout!  When we went to Universal Studios earlier this year, we had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.  It had a pink cadillac hanging from the ceiling over the bar (along with plenty of rock and roll themed decorations, of course).  The kids were mesmerized by the car hanging from the ceiling by our table and it's in all the pictures I took!  I used the Nifty Fifties cartridge to cut this awesome pink vintage car, juke box, and hamburger for my layout.  The font is also from Nifty Fifties.  (If you ever get a chance to eat there, the burgers were amazing!)

In fact, it seemed like they were having an 80s flashback moment with the music so while my husband and I were rocking out and singing along, the kids puzzled over the old MTV music clips that were being shown on the TV over the bar!  "Why didn't they just put their videos on YouTube?" asked one of my kids.  Facepalm moment!!!!

Out of this World layout (for Exploring Cricut)

Can a layout be out of this world?  I had so much fun making this layout for the BBTB2 this week!  Our DT sister Julie's challenge for us:  use a cricut moon and/or stars on a project.  I was pumped about this, becausewhile on vacation in Chicago last month, we went to the planetarium, so I made a layout for my planetarium pics.  Here it is:

I found the perfect title on the Nifty Fifties cartridge, of all places (for both the font and the Out of this World title)!  Here's how I found it-I used My Cut search (http://www.mycutsearch.com/).  For those of you who have never heard of it, My Cut Search is a free website that has a library of all the cricut cuts with a search function (it was made by a cricut user who has a programmer spouse).  You type in what you are looking for and you can see all the possible options from all the cartridges.  I use it to help me when I want to cut an image that I know is on many cartridges.  In this case, I was searching for rockets when I found my title.  I picked the stars from Plaintain Schoolbook and a moon from Create A Critter when I searched moon and stars.

Edited to add:  I don't have a gypsy, but for those that do, I'm told there is a search feature on it that will do the same thing.  Thanks Jaren!

On Cloud Nine layout (for BBTB2)

It's national ice cream month (now there's a holiday I can get behind!) and my BBTB2 DT sister Brenda has selected any ice cream cricut die cut for our challenge this week.  I've been playing around with the very nifty Nifty Fifties cartridge and used the ice cream cone for my layout.  I have some great vacation pictures of my family slurping down ice cream cones on a hot day (the ice cream was heavenly cool and wonderful) that will go on my layout.  The title and font are also from Nifty Fifties.  The title was inspired by this super cute cloud background paper from the Carta Bella Cool Summer collection.  The ice cream cone and sandwich stickers are from the collection also.

Drive In Father's Day card (for Exploring Cricut)

It's Monday and that means a new challenge for Exploring Cricut!  Diane has challenged us to use a Father's Day theme on a project this week.  I have been playing with the Nifty Fifties cartridge a bit and decided to try and think outside the box for my Father's Day card and this is what I came up with!  I used the drive-in sign and hand-wrote my sentiment.  I think my Dad will like this a lot!

With a Cherry on Top b-day card (for BBTB2)

Our BBTB2 challenge this week is Summer Foods!  Well, that leaves a whole lot of possibilities open, but I think of ice cream when I think of summer.  So an ice cream sundae project came to mind!  I made a birthday card with the ice cream sundae from Nifty Fifties and used some letter stickers and the word "cherry" (also from the cartridge) to make my sentiment:  happy b-day with a cherry on top!   The cute cherry background paper from Echo Park inspired the sentiment.
