Labor Day-career

Happy Monday!  I missed getting my blog post up last week, as we lost power due to big storms in the KC area.  It makes me appreciate electricity!  My heart is going out to all those who have been displaced from their homes or are without power due to the hurricane.  Our BBTB2 challenge with Labor Day coming up is to celebrate careers in some way.  I made a layout highlighting nurses, as both my mom and I are nurses and my niece is planning to become a nurse.  She recently attended an event for high school students aspiring to be nurses put on by the hospital I work at and left even more convinced that nursing is for her.  So we will be a family with three generations of nurses!

I work as an RN in a cardiothoracic surgery ICU taking care of patients before and after open heart/valve surgeries and heart transplants, so my current job is truly all about hearts.  I thought the title for my layout "Nursing is from the heart" most appropriate in so many ways!  I used a couple of cartridges to make my layout for a picture of my mom, niece, and myself at the event my niece attended at my hospital.  There are lots of different careers on display over at BBTB2 this week and you can link up your project over at BBTB2.

Oh Baby card (for BBTB2)

It's a baby challenge at BBTB2 this week!  My project was inspired by Pinterest.  I've seen a number of  dresser cards on Pinterest with various themes, and have been eager for the occasion to try to make one.  I cut three rectangles for my dresser drawers and added brads for the knobs.  The darling little baby outfit and rattle are from the Baby Steps cartridge (so fun to cut in pink, since everything in my life is boy-related…).  The cute "Oh Baby" and "Congrats" phrases are from the Zooballoo cartridge.

Cricut:
Baby Steps-outfit cut at 2 1/2 inches, rattle cut at 2 inches
Zooballoo-phrases, both cut at 1 inch
Formal Occasion-hangar
Paper-CTMH solids, The Paper Studio pink patterned paper
brown chalk ink
Swiss dots embossing folder

We are looking forward to seeing what sweet baby goodness you come up with and you MUST go check out all the darling baby projects from the DT over at BBTB2!

School Dance layout (for PDE challenges)

It's time for a new Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge and it's a "make a layout" challenge!  Now that is MY kind of challenge for sure, since a layout is my favorite crafty thing to make!  This layout is EXTRA special and fun, as it is about Son#1's first school dance earlier this month.  It was really shocking to realize that he is actually old enough to go to a dance with a girl!  I used the Formal Occasions cartridge for almost everything on this layout, including the scene with the "red" carpet, title, flowers, and journal box.  The font for 2013 is from Baby Steps, as the Formal Occasions cart does not have a font.   The challenge details and prize are at the bottom and we'd love to have you link up with a project!

Easter layout (for Exploring Cricut)

The Exploring Cricut challenge theme this week is "Easter", and we'd love to have you play along and share a project!  I chose to do a layout.  One of our family traditions is taking a photo after church of all of us dressed up in our nice clothes.

I have a spot for a family photo on the left page and a place for a picture of each of my sons on the right page.  The cursive title font is from the Baby Steps cartridge (I don't use the rest of that cart much, but I do really like the font!).  All the rest of the cuts are from Kate's ABCs and make me feel like spring (although I would feel more like spring if we hadn't gotten several inches of snow yesterday)!  The lovely print papers and stickers are from American Crafts, as are the buttons I added to the big flower centers.

The Crystal Palace (Disney layout)

This layout used the Pooh and Friends and Baby Steps cartridges to make a layout for the pictures of the Crystal Palace and getting an autograph from Pooh while we ate at Disney World.  The title font is from Baby Steps and all the other cuts are from the Pooh cart.  The paper is from the Basic Grey Life is a Party collection.  I'm going to link this to the Die Cuttin' Divas Anything Goes challenge this week-love those anything goes ones!!!!

Fall Festival layout

Son#1 performed at a local Fall Festival, so I made this fall layout for some of the pics.  I'd found this gorgeous fall paper by Reminisce that along with the BBTB2 challenge of the week, sort of inspired the layout.  I used the CM Cheerful Seasons cartridge for the pumpkins, basket of apples, and leaves and the title font is from the Baby Steps cartridge.  The BBTB2 challenge this week was to use "happy non-Halloween pumpkins", and I love these pretty pumpkins from Cheerful Seasons.  Wish the ones on my front porch were that pretty!  The festival, by the way, was in an old time town from 1885, in case you are wondering why there are Civil War soldiers and log cabins in the pics.

Sweet Memories-baking cookies

This layout is for some pics of baking yummy cookies with one of my boys.   Mmmm!    I used Winter Frolic for the cookies, journal box, and Sweet Memories title, plus Baby Steps for the baking cookies font.  I really like the cursive font on the Baby Steps cart.  The patterned paper is from the Bo Bunny Blitzen collection, plus some Bo Bunny double dot paper for the solids.

Glee (fly free) layout

Are there any Glee fans out there?  Son#2 went to a "Gleek in training" Saturday workshop and you would not believe how many kids there were!!!!  About 180!  Clearly the show has made singing and show choir more popular.  He had a blast, learning several numbers (with choreography) and then the kids performed them in a concert at the end of the day.

One of the numbers was "Blackbird", with lots of flying type arm movements, which prompted my title.  (Plus the title rhymed-I'm kind of a sucker for rhyming)  One of the district's show choirs performed some numbers with a sweethearts theme, since this was right before Valentine's Day, so that gave me an excuse to use my Valentine paper and a sweet butterfly and ladybug from Simply Charmed.  My little gleek has been driving us crazy this week singing ALL the the songs, ALL the time, causing his brothers to clamor for some peace and quiet (or what passes for peace and quiet when you have 3 boys, lol).
